32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time – Sunday, 6th November 2011
...Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Jesus said to the crowds: “Stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.” These words of Jesus are usually heard as a warning about being prepared for death and, no doubt, they are that. But they are also a call to be prepared for life! It is so easy to get used to even the most wonderful gifts of life and love and take them for granted. Our call is to be alert to these and to celebrate them daily, especially in our love relationships of marriage and family life and also within the community of faith. We miss out on so much joy and happiness with each other. Husbands and wives get so busy that they have no time to be with each other and to enjoy their marriage. Parents are so focused on giving their children as much as possible that they can neglect the most important thing of all, the gift of themselves. And in the faith community we can be so intent on doing our duty that we neglect to enjoy what we are doing.

First Reading: Wisdom 612-16
Wisdom is bright.

Second Reading: Thessalonians 4:13-18
So we shall stay with the Lord for ever.

Gospel: Matthew 25:1-13
The foolish ones said to the sensible ones – “Give us some of your oil”.

YOUTHLIFE GROWING THROUGH CHANGE PROGRAMME

Friday 18th – Sunday 20th November 2011. There is no more traumatic event in a child’s life than the loss of a loved one. The trauma is difficult for young people to deal with because their limited experienced does not yet contain the tools to cope with such a situation. The loss of a loved one brings with it many different feelings and emotions. These can appear so unbearable that the young person may feel that s/he cannot cope. Young people need to know that it is alright to show their grief in their own way without feeling guilty or wrong. We are offering an opportunity for young people to get away for a weekend where we will help them to begin to understand why they are feeling this way and to show that these feelings are normal and that they will not always feel this way. The weekend is residential and takes place in the Residential Centre, Ulster American Folk Park from 8 pm on Friday 18th until 5 pm on Sunday 20th November. The activities of the weekend consist of: personal experience presentations by young volunteers, small discussion groups and audio & visual presentations.

For further information and application forms please contact Bridie or Pat at the Youthlife CentreTel: 028 71377227 Mobile: 07912507388 Email: youthlife.info@gmail.com or visit our web site www.youthlife.org
