Third Sunday in Ordinary Time – Sunday, 23rd January 2011
...Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.” It often strikes me that heaven is going to be hell for a lot of us! Can you imagine having to be happy all the time? Most of us are not practiced in happiness. Heaven is going to be about being positive, joyful, grateful, and full of praise about everyone and everything for all eternity. The call to repentance today can be for us to change now and set out to develop all these qualities as fully as possible. These are most important to practice and develop in our marriage and family relationships. It is there especially that we can take so much for granted. And it is there also that we can claim the right to be in bad form. Set out this week to make our homes places of gladness and joy. And let that repentance flow over to how we leave the quality of life in our faith communities to others and we settle for doing the bare minimum. We are all responsible for spreading the Gospel.

YOUTHLIFE – SAFE FUTURES PROGRAMME - Friday 4th – Sunday 6th February 2011. There is no more traumatic event in a child’s life than the loss of a loved one. The trauma is difficult for young people to deal with because their limited experience does not yet contain the tools to cope with such a situation. The loss of a loved one through suicide brings with it many different feelings and emotions. These can appear so unbearable that the young person may feel that s/he cannot cope. Young people need to know that it is alright to show their grief in their own way without feeling guilty or wrong. We are offering an opportunity for young people to get away for a weekend where we will help them to begin to understand why they are feeling this way and to show that these feelings are normal and that they will not always feel this way.

The weekend is residential and takes place in the Residential Centre, Ulster American Folk Park from 8pm on Friday 4th to 5pm on Sunday 6th February. The activities of the weekend consist of: personal experience presentations by young volunteers, small discussion groups and audio and visual presentations. Further information and application forms from Bridie or Pat at the Youthlife Centre tel 02871 377227. mobile 07912507388. email: youthlife_be@hotmail.com or visit our website wee.youthlife.btik.com
