RESIDENTS IN FOREGLEN
VILLAGE would like to raise the awareness
of dog owners that it is their responsibility
to pick up after their own dogs when out walking.
A numbr of concerned parents have highlighted
this issue for the health and safety of their
children when playing outside on the pavement.
This problem is occurring on the pavement right
through the village. It would be much appreciated
by all if dog owners could be more vigilant
and responsible when walking their dogs. Thank
you
CHILD PROTECTION &
OUR CHURCH – Over the last number
of months a group of representatives from our
parish as a whole have undertaken training and
been attending information sessions on how best
to implement Child Protection Policies 7 Procedures
within our Parish Churches here in Banagher.
This has not just been a practice unique to
Banagher, representatives from all Parishes
in the Diocese of Derry have been involved in
respect of their own Parishes and Churches.
The Banagher Parish Representatives would like
to share with you, our parishioners, information
regarding their work to date. To this end all
parishioners are invited to a series of meetings
being held, in the coming weeks, in the 3 areas
of the Parish – Park, Feeny and Foreglen.
Feeny – St Joseph’s Hall, Monday
25th February 2008 at 7.30pm
Park – The Parochial Hall, Monday 3rd
March 2008 at 7.30pm; and
Foreglen – The Community Centre, Monday
10th March at 7.30pm
The representatives would particularly request
that:
- any person who works with children in our
Parish;
- any person/group who uses parish property;
- parents of Altar Servers, Children in Choirs,
etc;
- Any Parish Worker, paid or voluntary, eg savings
collectors, Eucharistic Ministers; etc
Would try to attend one of the Meetings. If
you cannot make the Meeting in your own area
of the Parish, perhaps you could attend one
of the other venues. The Banagher Parish Representatives
would be very grateful for your help in this
matter
(NB this is not an exhaustive list and no
matter how small a role you think you play in
Parish life, it is essential that you try to
attend one of the Meetings).

HELP WITH FAMILY TREE
ORIGINS SOUGHT – Our Banagher
parish website is obviously being viewed now
worldwide !!! We have been contacted by a Brian
Carlin from San Diego, California, USA who was
originally from St Malachy’s Parish in
Coleraine. Brian is trying to trace his family
tree and in the process of research on the internet
he was very impressed with our website –
Brian’s family have been in the Coleraine
area for 5 generations, but prior to that he
has information that some ancestors hailed from
the Foreglen area. He writes that the family
name has undergone a number of spelling changes
through the generations . Currently he is trying
to discover the origins of his great-great grandfather,
Bernard Carlin, who was born around 1800. Can
anyone help at all – there are variations
such as Carland on some documents but he is
aware that Kerlin may also be some form of variation
- If you think you can help in any way, however
small, Brian can be contacted by email on BCARLIN@san.rr.com
Alternatively, if you leave
your contact details with Josephine Hassan she
will pass these on to Brian who will be only
too delighted to get in touch with you.
