Confirmation

Confirmation is one of the three sacraments of initiation into God’s church…the other two being Baptism and Holy Communion.

Confirmation is the sacrament by which Catholics receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This outpouring reinforces the graces received at Baptism, gives you more of them, and seals you with them. And like all sacraments, the more we open our hearts, our minds and our lives to it , the more powerful its effect is.

These graces are called the Gifts of the Holy spirit. They are wisdom, understanding, knowledge, courage, prayerfulness, counsel and the fear of the Lord. The phrase ‘the fear of the lord’ refers to the proper awe and respect we human beings should have for our Creator God.

Children in the Parish receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in Primary 7. The schools assist parents in the preparation for this Sacrament.

This year, Confirmation will be celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Donnelly in St Joseph’s Church, Fincairn on Wednesday 25th March 2020 at 5pm.
